The Dance Persona (A Journey of Hip Hop Dance Perfection, Part 2)

As the title says, this is part 2 of “The Dance Persona” series of articles on how to achieve hip hop dancing perfection. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, go ahead and read part 1 of The Dance Persona.

Now let’s move to the second step of discovering the dance persona:-

Step 2. Define Perfection

Let me bring up a quote from my all-time favourite movie, Forrest Gump –

Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.

I’m not going to say that I know how living life should be like I’m some kinda new age philosophical guru. I’m also not gonna impose my ideas about life on you. However, there is something I can tell you about life and how it’s applicable to discovering your dance persona, based on that quote above.

One of the reasons why Forrest’s mum said that was simply because of her situation – the absence of Forrest’s father, and Forrest’s condition.

Yes, the more external entities involved, the more uncontrollable it is, and the more ‘you never know what you’re gonna get’.

But Dance is One. One entity. The Dance Persona. And it’s under your Control.

Let’s rephrase that quote –

Life is like a box of chocolates, there’s no meaning to it at all until you give it one!

Dance, like life, are just blank slates – tabula rasae. Why do you want to dance? What is dance to you? How good do you want to be? How far do you want to go? Take some time to think about it. Define perfection for yourself. You will never achieve pure perfection without properly defining it.

Let’s rephrase the original quote for the last time –

Life is like a box of chocolates. I expect there to be chocolates because I know it’s a box of chocolates, and therefore I know what I’m gonna get.

Define perfection and expect it to unfold within You. Know what you’re doing and you’ll know how to put effort into achieving it.

Again, do anything necessary to create eloquence.

The Dance Persona knows the Face of Perfection.
